leveled classes

Our classes by level focus on technique, self-expression & performance within the joy of a disciplined yet encouraging learning environment.

These classes are based on the dancer’s level, NOT on the dancer’s age. It is standard for dancers to spend about 3 years in one level.

Ballet (levels 5-9)

Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of methods. Musicality is emphasized along with balance, coordination and grace through the strengthening of the body core. As students progress through each level the technique will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Class Attire: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes (leather or canvas- we recommend canvas for the more advanced dancer). Other warm-ups are allowed during cold months (leg warmers, shrugs, etc.) for the beginning of class, but teacher may ask students to remove skirts and other cover ups after warm up. Hair must be in a bun. (girls)

Black athletic shorts and black or white Tshirt, black ballet shoes (boys)

Teen Ballet/ Lyrical

This ballet class is for the beginner & intermediate dancer who is 11 years old or older. This class allows older dancers that are interested in starting dance or need help brushing up on technique for things like drill team, etc. to participate in a class specifically geared for their age. We highly recommend these dancers take a Teen Jazz class as well.

Contemporary (levels 5-8)

Contemporary is a combination of dance techniques that also expresses personal emotion and passion from within the dancer. It is a blend of many dance styles including jazz, ballet, lyrical and modern. This unique style allows dancers to use their jazz skills in a new and exciting way. All dancers enrolled in Contemporary are REQUIRED to take a ballet class as well as it is vital to have the ballet technique to support this style.

Class Attire: Solid black dance attire- leotard and tights or form fitted top with dance shorts/pants (must be form fitting). Any short shorts or “booty” shorts must have tights underneath. Hair pulled back off of face. (girls)

Leaps & Turns

Similar to a jazz class, but focusing on primarily leaps across the floor and all kinds of turns. Add some fun new skills to your repertoire with this class. We strongly encourage dancers in leaps and turns to also take jazz and/or ballet to get the full benefits of all technique as this class will focus on the “tricks” aspect. This is a great addition to a dancer’s class schedule as well as very beneficial for those in drill team or other activities that require these skills. Currently all levels are combined in this class, but dancers must have previous dance experience to enroll in Leaps & Turns. This class does not perform in recital.

Class Attire: Same as Jazz

Pointe

Pointe dancers must first take a PrePointe class and pass the end of the year “exam” to graduate to Pointe shoes. Going en pointe too early could be dangerous or harmful to the dancer’s body and result in the dancer practicing technique incorrectly, forming bad habits. This is only for dancers with strong ballet technique, whose body is strong enough and ready to go en pointe and for dancers who have a true love of ballet. Pointe dancers are required to take a minimum of 2 ballet classes in addition to their pointe class. Please contact the director if interested in Pointe.

Class Attire: Black leotard, pink tights, pointe shoes (professionally fitted at a reputable dancewear store). Other warm-ups are allowed during cold months (leg warmers, shrugs, etc.) for the beginning of class, but teacher may ask students to remove skirts and other cover ups after warm up. Hair must be in a bun.

Tap (Levels 5-8)

Tap dance is a fun style where dancers make sounds and rhythms with their shoes. This lively rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a percussive musician. Dancers will learn popular tap steps, syncopation, intricate footwork and learn to create and recognize different rhythms.

Placement will be based on ability and past experience rather than age.

Class Attire: Solid black dance attire- leotard and tights or form fitted top with dance shorts/pants (must be form fitting). Any short shorts or “booty” shorts must have tights underneath. Hair pulled back off of face. (girls)

Acrobatics ("Acro") (Levels 5-8)

Acro Dance is the fusion of the artistic motion of dance and the athleticism of acrobatics. This program promotes excellence in flexibility, strength, balance, limbering, tumbling, basic contortion, and partner/group stunting for dancers. Students will be working on skills similar to those seen in gymnastics floor routines in addition to skills that can be used in their dancing.

Class Attire: Form fitting clothes- Leotard or short-tard with or without form fitted shorts is suggested, bare feet. Hair pulled back off of face.

Acro Choreography (Levels 5-8)

This class allows Acro dancers to take their Acro to the next level. In this class dancers will work on incorporating Acro skills into more intricate choreography to connect movements together and prepare them to use these skills in other dances. Acro Choreograpy is an add-on class and students are REQUIRED to be enrolled in a separate Acro technique class in order to take this.

Testimonials

We love Red Door! We've been attending the studio now for almost two years. My daughter has blossomed so much during that time. Dancing is her love. She looks so much forward to dance class. If she could, she would be there every day. The instructors are kind, attentive, and fun. We have gone to a previous dance studio before, and have done many other activities as well, and this is the one place where I know my daughter feels welcomed and appreciated. The studio is also clean and the parents are very friendly. I have met so many other amazing moms there that I now consider my dear friends. Thank you Red Door!
